THE O'NEILL STUDIO
FREE LAB
2020 Free Labs - Meisner & Monologue Tracks
We are now accepting applications for this fall’s O’Neill Studio Free Labs to be led by Playwrights Theater artistic director Stephen Kennedy Murphy (Click
Link for WIKI bio).
The Lab is a by audition, no fee forum in which The O'Neill Studio develops its training programs. With "the new normal" in mind, in this summer's Lab The Studio will adapt its Meisner and Monologue Tracks for the online platform.
Zoom is an effective forum for acting training, but not an ideal one because of the "delay" between members of a given "meeting."
So we seek to find the most nuanced approach possible through our Lab. We are looking for actors to help in the transition by taking part and offering feedback.
In the Monologue Free Lab, actors will work on a monologue in a three group or individual video sessions. The Lab will take place at a time scheduled by consensus.
For the Meisner Free Lab, over the course of three group sessions, actors will be introduced to the widely misunderstood Repetition “game” as Mr. Meisner himself taught it to his classes, (of which Murphy was a part). These sessions, which will take place in January, will include a voice and body warm-up.
